Shutdowns and projects

Shutdown planning and supervision

Aegis plans major shutdowns, outages, and turnarounds before work begins, then supervises them on site, for cement, aggregates, and industrial plants in Indiana and across the Midwest.

Planning before the plant stops

A shutdown is decided in the weeks before it starts. Work that is scoped late, parts that are not on site, and contractors waiting on each other are what push a restart back. Aegis does the planning that prevents that, working with your maintenance, production, and purchasing teams.

  • Scope: a defined work list with a freeze date, so late additions are a decision and not a surprise.
  • Work packages: each job broken into steps with the labor, tools, parts, permits, and access it needs.
  • Sequence: the order of work and the critical path, so everyone knows which jobs set the restart date.
  • Resources: your own crews and third-party contractors scheduled against the sequence.
  • Materials: parts and consumables confirmed and staged before the first day.
  • Budget: a cost estimate built from the work packages and tracked through the job.

Supervision on site

During the shutdown Aegis is at the plant, not following from a distance. That means running the daily coordination, tracking progress against the schedule and the scope, overseeing contractors, and handling the work that is only discovered once equipment is opened up, through to startup.

Projects supervision

The same oversight applies to maintenance and reliability capital projects outside a shutdown: equipment replacements, installations, and rebuilds that need someone accountable on site for schedule, scope, quality, and safety.

Where this experience comes from

Founder Cristian Boar planned and directed annual major shutdowns on all main equipment at two US cement plants, including the coordination and supervision of third-party contractors. Earlier, as mechanical maintenance manager at Holcim's Alesd plant, he delivered a kiln shell replacement, a raw meal bucket elevator belt and bucket replacement, and a full first-chamber liner replacement on the raw mill.

What helps us start

A target date, the equipment involved, the work list from your last shutdown, and how your team plans work today. If you are not sure where your plan stands, that conversation is the place to begin.
